The Château Margaux

Château Margaux is one of the legendary châteaux of the Bordeaux region in France. In 1855, the Bordelais classified many (but not all) of the wine producing châteaux into crus or growths. This was done largely by reputation in an attempt to put the very best winemakers into the top category. The 1855 Classification placed Châteax Margaux in the top tier, the premiere cru, or first growth.

Château Margaux was a favorite wine of former U.S. President Richard Nixon. He often played a joke on his guests by decanting the wine and labeling it as "Château Margot."
